Free ICT and other resources via massive open online courses (MOOC)
Besides the project ITdesk.info, there are plenty of free online courses, ie, courses that students follow exclusively via computer. Moreover, even the most reputable, world-renowned universities offer totally free courses not only to their staff and students, but also to all interested people, from anywhere in the world. The topics that people can learn and get certified (somewhere even receive a university degree!), include: foreign languages, technical sciences, social sciences, playing an instrument, etc. Students participate in a course by examining digital materials, and can also engage in the dialogue with other students through forums, exchange experiences, get help with the material.
Benefits of MOOC:
– Learning in a time and place that suits the participants,
– The possibility of re-viewing material if, and as long as, there is a need for that
– It is is completely free and without any obligation to enroll and attend the course, you need only to open user account
NOTE: sometimes, there is a symbolic fee for a certificate (confirmation of participation and successful completion of the course). At this link you can see the price and an example of such certificate: https://www.coursera.org/certificate/learning-how-to-learn?utm_source=catalog
* We expanded the usefulness of this project to the service of sending verification for acquired computer knowledge and skills, completely free of charge.
Some of the better known MOOC:
Duolingo – this website is becoming the most popular way of learning foreign languages. In addition to being completely free, also uses “gamification” (a concept that applies gaming (ie. a sense of competition and promotion) to motivate people to achieve the target objectives). It also uses algorithms to inform participants when to repeat what they learned, in order to store the knowledge in long-term memory. Learning foreign languages has become really easy and fun!
